Submitting your first standup

Submitting your first standup

Overview

Welcome! This guide will help you complete your first daily standup using the Daily Standup Governance for Jira app. Our goal is to make status reporting take less than 2 minutes while ensuring your blockers get the attention they deserve.

Accessing the App

  1. Open your project in Jira Cloud.

  2. Select your Scrum or Kanban board.

  3. Locate the Daily Standup governance for Jira icon in the left-hand navigation or top board header.

  4. Click on ‘My Standup’ → ‘Today’s Updates'

  5. Click to open the Standup Stepper.

Step-by-Step Submission

The standup form follows a structured 3-step process:

Step 1: Reflect (Yesterday)

The app automatically pulls your recent last working day’s Jira activity which includes all essential details which must be reported to facilitator for smooth planning. This includes but not limited to status changes, comments, scope changes, acceptance criteria changes, ddependencies changes, branch commit message and logged time.

  • Action: Select the category of the changes you need to provide as update from dropdown and click on ‘Copy’ action, paste in the text area and review the suggested items before proceeding to the next stepper item.

  • Constraint: Keep it concise (max 500 characters).

  • Constraint: Keep it concise (max 500 characters).

Step 3: Mood & Blockers

This is the most critical part for team health.

  • Select Mood: Choose the icon that best represents your current state (e.g., Productive, Stressed, or Blocked).

  • Raise a Blocker: If you are stuck, describe why. Assign a severity (Low to Critical).

4. Final Review and Submission

Before you hit Submit, remember:

Governance Rule

Submissions are Immutable [cannot be changed]. Once you submit, your record is locked to ensure data integrity for the sprint retrospective.
